Denver, CO – Most people would dread the prospect of working in a cubicle. But at one Denver advertising agency, they decided to take a chance on a new type of cubicle that’s paying off in increased productivity and attention.
Kear/Stevens, an advertising agency in Denver that boasts clients such as ADP, Great-West Life and Webroot Software, recently moved into an older, remodeled building in Denver’s Golden Triangle neighborhood. Although excited about the new space, they were faced with a big challenge.
“The building is triangular, and although its angles and brick walls give it a funky charm, it’s a tough workspace to organize,” said Matt Brown, one of the agency’s principals. “Lucky for us we found a new kind of cubicle that fits the space and as well as how our people work.”
The cubicle Brown is talking about is much more than a cubicle. It’s the new My Studio workspace developed by renown designer Douglas Ball and manufactured by office product innovator Herman Miller.
The My Studio workspaces feature an internal “work zone” with an ergonomic desk area on one side and a credenza-like storage area on the other, with lots of room for movement in between. Frosted glass walls let in light while protecting privacy, and a tall door that looks like a fancy shower screen can be closed when it’s time to get down to work.
Besides being built for comfort and convenience, My Studio also makes it easy to communicate with co-workers. The glass panels between workspaces can slide open so employees can have one-on-one chats, and the back walls are low enough that you can easily exchange ideas with the person seated behind you.
“Not only have the My Space stations enabled us to organize our office space much more efficiently, but they have actually helped us improve how we talk and interact with each other,” said Brown. “Plus the fact that they look so clean and modern has really turned the heads of people passing by on the street.”
